Austin Film Festival
Jake and I bought passes for this (and membership for the year). Here is the schedule. I’m pretty excited about it.
Currently I am...
- Talking a friend out of firing one of his employees
- Promoting all things pumpkin flavored via my facebook status
- Avoiding a mountain of work that is piling up as I type this
It reminds me of the scenes in those Sunny Delight ads where the rambunctious kids search the refrigerator, out from which the camera peers, saying, “Milk, cola, OJ, purple stuff, Sunny D…” and all the friends exclaim “Sunny D!” Purple stuff? And whose parents bought that many beverages? Why OJ and Sunny D?

Been waiting all year for this to hit stores!! Oh pumpkin spice creamer, you are my best friend.

For about a minute I thought this was a floating baby.
Set You Free - Planet Soul
Not only did this play at my solar system bday party, but also at every skating rink in the 90’s.

Overall I had a great birthday weekend.
Friday - Ate at Imperia Sushi (possibly my favorite restaurant in Austin) with Jake, Rhonda, and Jake’s brother, John. It was delicious. Then we walked to Brown Bar and sat at a table and ordered some drinks. I thought more people would come meet up with us, but some people had work in the morning, others decided to hit up other bars since our dinner ran a bit late, and others I’m still not sure about. Anyway, we still had fun trying to talk over Moby (I swear they must have played a whole album of his). Liz showed up and had a few drinks with us which made me happy. She had to be up at 5am the next morning to go to Dallas for the UT game, so she was a definite trooper. Then we got to see a girl just casually vomit on the ground as she walked to the bathroom.
Saturday - Lounged around all day watching college football then started prepping for the Solar System party. Went the store to buy some beer (tried out Harvest Moon, which wasn’t too bad) and other party supplies. I spent about 10 minutes alone on just trying to locate Velveeta in the H-E-B without asking for help and failed. I realized that Velveeta (for me) is the hardest item to locate in grocery stores. I know that it’s not kept with the other cheeses since it’s not really cheese, but shit, I need arrows or something. Can they put a note by the cheeses as to what aisle it’s located? I checked by the chips- nope. I checked by the other velveeta products - nope. Finally I gave up and texted Robbie asking if he’d pick some up on his way over.
Party went very well. Was supposed to start at 8pm, but the first guests arrived at 9pm which probably would have been a better start time now that I think about it. I had a Solar System playlist with such songs as “Blue Moon”, “Intergalactic” “Drops of Jupiter”, “Bad Moon Rising”, “Space Jam” etc. We had a table with Starcrunch, Starbursts, Milky Ways, and Pop Rocks. I made a vodka + Tang drink which was pretty good. I also had glow stick straws for everyone to drink with. When the crowd started to thin around 12:30, we started playing games since everyone was nice and drunk. We started with ‘Celebrity’ then began playing ‘Mafia’ which was probably the funniest. We finished Mafia around 4am as I started my plea for sleep.
Sunday - Jake’s parents and his brother were in town to see him and also his father and I share a birthday. So, we ended up watching the beginning of the Saints game as his place then we went and got food from Waterloo Icehouse and watched most of the game. Jake’s brother is a big Edgar Allan Poe fan, and since there is a free exhibit in Austin right now for him, we decided to go check it out. Afterwards, we went and got ice cream at Amy’s and then I dropped them off so I could go home and get some sleep. I was running on only 4 hours at that point.
Great Birthday weekend. I’m sooo 25 now, so no more Solar System parties, guys. (Yeah right!)
At an Edgar Allan Poe exhibit
All ready for the Solar System party!
So not only is it my birthday...
…but we had our annual Service Awards luncheon for work at the UT club. I got an award for working there for one year. For some reason heads turned and eyebrows were raised when I went up to accept my award. Afterwards, I was told that most people thought I had been at the company for at least 3 years. I figure maybe that is one of the outcomes of working from home and no one ever seeing me. However, someone (who isn’t in my department, but works with my department often) sent me this email:
Hi Lacey!
I think I have figured out why it seems that you have been at [the company] longer than a year… you are, at least in my eyes, already established in what you do here and someone who is a real go-to person for answers on Tech Support issues; I have worked at [the company] for over eight years and have not always felt that way with new analysts. Anyway…just my two cents (and kudos).
Congratulations on your anniversary…and have an awesome birthday weekend!

How old or tall were you when you first pulled the attic stairs down by yourself?
