I hadn’t realized my eyes had gotten so bad and didn’t have my glasses on or contacts in… old lady Whitney over here, petting her undiscernable black blobs.
You are feeding the legend of Whitney - crazy cat lady.
FYI - These exist and are delicious.
Going to the dentist today
I can’t wait for her to point sharp things into my gums and then say, “I don’t like to see your gums bleeding this much” to which I will respond, “Yeah, me neither”

ACL 2009 Recap
Friday
Got out there semi-early and enjoyed the beautiful grass in Zilker Park. Jake and I brought a blanket to sit on, but really we could have done without it. I don’t even think bugs were in this grass, it was sooo clean.
- School of Seven Bells (band) - first band we saw. We sat on our blanket for about 3 songs and then decided to go get some food.
- The Salt Lick (food)- I have heard so many good things about this place, but have yet to go, so I figured ACL was the perfect opportunity. WRONG! Should have waited for the real deal. Jake and I both got pulled pork sandwiches and were both disappointed.
- Blitzen Trapper (band) - Jake has been raving about this band for a month or two, but I hadn’t gotten a chance to download any of their music yet. Very good show. Need to download some stuff today.
- Migraine (problem) - I think it’s going to be routine that the first day of ACL each year, I will get a migraine.
- Avett Brothers (band) - VERY good. Had never heard anything by them before but I was impressed.
- Todd Snider (band/comedian?) - Don’t really remember his music, just some story he told about how he became a stoner.
- Daniel Johnston (band) - We got pretty close for his set which was really good. He had this guitarist that kept trying to steal the show though, which was pretty annoying.
- Them Crooked Vultures (band) - We actually walked to the neighboring stage and watched the set from there since trying to get anywhere close was futile. Dave Grohl on the drums again - awesome! We went to the stage right next to it so that we could have a good spot for…
- The Yeah Yeah Yeahs (band) - My favorite show from the whole weekend. So much audience participation, so many costume changes, so much fun! Not at all upset that we missed Kings of Leon for this
We had taken the shuttle bus from downtown to Zilker but were told that to get the bus back to downtown was about a 3 hour wait because of the line. So we decided to walk the 2 miles back to the car.
Saturday
It was raining, there wasn’t anyone I was dying to see that was playing, and the LSU-Georgia game was coming on at 2:30pm. Jake and I made the (wise) decision to post our tickets on Craigslist. I put them up there and took a 15 minute shower, when I checked my email, I had 68 new emails. I quickly took the posting down and started to weed out the emails. Found a woman that was willing to pay $100 for each ticket (we paid $85 for each) and was willing to meet us near Jake’s place. SOLD! Watched the LSU game with some friends downtown.
Sunday
The green grass that was so beautiful on Friday was non-existent when we strolled into the park. It smelled like shit, and we learned today that it was indeed sewage. Nice.
- Louie’s 106 (food) - Even though the place smelled like shit, Jake and I were both immediately hungry. I get overwhelmed by all the food choices and settled on this place because it had a plate of penne pasta with chicken and peanut sauce or something. Sounded delicious. Tasted awful. I imagined it to be warm, but it was a cold dish. It didn’t help that right as I sloshed through the mud to buy my food, they started rolling out hay right behind me which began to cover my plate of $7 food.
- The Dodos (band) - I’m not going to lie, I was still in shock from the mud/poo mixture that I stood in and barely noticed a band was playing.
- David Garza (band) - I’ve been a fan since high school and saw him play for the first time a few months ago at a bar downtown. I was glad there wasn’t a way for him to take tequila shots this time and therefore I thought the show went a bit better.
- The B-52s (band) - OMG! This was hilarious. They still “got it”, that’s for sure. But it sincerely felt like watching a gay guy and 2 transvestites. Fred would say those things that would have me and Jake just cracking up. “Now, let’s go back to OUTERRRSSPACCCEE!” After they were done, Jake got real close to the stage so he could have a good spot for Arctic Monkeys while I went to find Liz since Jake already let me know that he would NOT be accompanying me to Passion Pit.
- Heartless Bastards (band) - Most of their set was looking for the flag Liz txted me that she was standing by and then locating Liz, then realizing how hot it had gotten, then meeting Liz’s friends who were ALL FROM LOUISIANA!! Of course because of Louisiana’s small size, we all shared common friends/contacts/acquaintances.
- Arctic Monkeys (band) - Liz, her friends, and I walked over to watch this set. Really enjoyed it! Noticed that on the big screen, there were only 14 year old girls in the front row and not many of them knew the words to songs. Wasn’t really sure what that was all about. We left about halfway through so we could get a decent spot for…
- Passion Pit (band) - My friend Josh met up with us here as well as Whitney who manufactured a bracelet. Of all the audiences, this was BY FAR the friendliest. Even though Liz accidentally knocked a girl’s cell phone in the mud - there were no worries. PP wasn’t as good live as I would have hoped, but I still enjoyed it. Also, they didn’t play my favorite song of theirs which may be why I’m being all negative Nancy about it.
- The Dead Weather (band) - Walked with one of Liz’s friends (since they were all going to Girl Talk) over to their set. They had already started, but we pushed through some of the crowd and watched what was going on mostly from the screen. There was not one fan around. I mean, sure everyone knows who Jack White is, but no one seemed to know that he had this new band or anything. It annoyed me that some teenagers next to us were enjoying the mud (or what we all thought was mud) more than the band. They turned it into a hobby of spelling stuff out on their bodies and pushing each other into it. Oh well. Great performance though. Also, Jake was closer to the stage and he said there weren’t really any fans up there either, mostly just people that were securing their spot for Pearl Jam.
- Dan Auberbach (band) - Jake watched while I talked since I felt like it had been HOURS since we had seen each other (I guess technically it was). It began to get dark and we decided to maybe go see some of Pearl Jam.
- Pearl Jam (band) - We stayed for 1 1/2 songs, then I gave Jake a nod and we left. There was about a 30 minute walk to the bus though so we heard most of the set and sang along.
