Weekend of films

Thursday we went to “Matthew Weiner presents….Mad Men” - he showed the John Deere episode and then had a Q&A afterwards. Things I learned: There have been 6 different child actors that have played Bobby Draper, but only one girl has ever played Sally Draper. Joan will likely not return to the office but will definitely remain on the show. He said he wasn’t going to reveal anything, but just from the way he spoke - he didn’t want to write for the show but actually write how things would have really been.

After that, we went to Youth in Revolt which stars Michael Cera. Zach Galifianakis and Justin Long were also in this. It was pretty funny.

Friday night we got in line for “Mitchell Hurwitz presents…”. For all of the screenings and events, people with badges formed one line, people with passes formed a different line, and anyone wanting to buy leftover tickets formed another. Badges always get let in first, then passes, then tickets. Well, as Jake and I are waiting in line, Mitch pops out of car and Jake’s eyes lit up. We both kind of wave at him and he waves back at us and tells us “I’ll see you inside in a minute.” It was a really cool moment until some girl walks out of the theater to tell all the people with passes or tickets that they couldn’t enter because the theater was full.

We had planned to eat during the movie (it was at the Alamo) so we were still hungry and started wandering around downtown for a place to eat. While we are wandering, we stumble upon a free outdoor Jet concert. Wtf, Austin? I was too hungry to stay and watch so we ate at a nearby (crappy) restaurant.

Later we saw Harmony and Me which was filmed in Austin. Movie was good. Director and 2 actors got up afterwards for a Q&A and the director threw a hissy fit because he didn’t like the quality of the movie (due to the theater it was shown in) and in his words “didn’t want to pretend to have a Q&A when no one really saw the movie”. It was lame.

We skipped Saturday due to the LSU game (Geaux Tigers!!!)

Yesterday, we went to see The Messenger starring Woody Harrelson and Ben Foster. The movie was excellent. Woody Harrelson, the director and someone else were there for Q&A afterwards. I got some realllly crappy iPhone pics of Woody.

I am looking forward to more movies this week.
