My very Austin weekend

  • Jake came into town late Thursday night and we stayed in and watched the shows (Office [x2], 30 Rock, and Parks and Recreation).
  • Friday morning, I made a big breakfast and then we went to Mt. Bonnell and got some great pictures
  • After Mt. Bonnell we went to Zilker Park and went canoeing for about an hour - saw tons of turtles, one snake, and one bird tried to attack us.
  • On our way back from that, Jake voiced that he very much wanted to go to Dave and Buster’s to fulfill his childhood dreams - so we went.
  • That night we headed downtown to eat at my favorite sushi place - Imperia. Sooo good.
  • After dinner, we walked to Maggie Mae’s and had a beer then went to see Adventureland at the Alamo Drafthouse downtown.
  • Saturday, we woke up and went to the Texas State Capitol for a tour. The capitol is incredible - no pencils in the ceiling like Louisiana’s, but still has tons of history and is beautiful.
  • After the tour, we were starving so we went to Hut’s and got some burgers.
  • My head started to hurt because we took so long to eat lunch (3 or 4 pm), so we came back to my apt and laid down a bit before getting ready to go to a Kinks Tribute night at Ruta Maya.
  • Jake was in heaven - he loves the Kinks. We stayed for 4 bands but my migraine was pretty bad by then, so we left.
  • Easter Sunday we woke up and put on Sunday’s best to go get some breakfast at Kerbey Lane Cafe. I got gingerbread pancakes and Jake got the blueberry ones.
  • After our food settled a bit, we went to St. Edwards park for some hiking. It was a fun Easter hike. We really wanted snowcones afterwards, but since virtually every place was closed for Easter, we assumed that would include snowcone places.
  • Instead we got a slushie and decided to get ready for dinner.
  • I was going to take him to Trudy’s, but we got there and it was closed. So instead we swung by the Domain to see if anything was open and ended up at an Italian restaurant called North. We shared a pizza, an appetizer, and mean looks.
  • We skipped dessert at the restaurant so that we could eat some Amy’s Ice Cream in the Arboretum. Thank you Amy’s for being open!!
  • We were going to see Sunshine Cleaning but that would have put us getting home very late and I was getting tired. So instead we rented I’ve Loved You So Long, which is now one of my favorite movies.
It doesn’t get more Austin than that, does it?
