I wish this photo was larger, but I’m just amazed I know who everyone in it is. From L to R: 1. Not 100%, but I believe this is my great grandmother. I know she lived to be 116 or something like that 2. My grandfather on my mom’s side. I was his only granddaughter and he was a WWII vet and an alcoholic. (Read: No man would ever be good enough for me.) He died after many strokes when I was a freshman in high school. 3. My Nana that just passed away. She and my grandfather were divorced when my mom was 18. It was pretty rough on my mom because she was still in high school and had to get a job to pay for household things as my nana didn’t work. My nana also never had a driver’s license. 4. The girls in order from tallest to shortest (oldest to youngest): Aunt Marcia, Aunt Lorry, and my mom. 5. All the way to the right is my great Aunt Snookie. She took care of me from when I was in 5th grade to high school. My mom took night classes at LSU from when I was in Kindergarden until I graduated from high school, so my aunt would pick me up from school and take me to get treats at the gas station before either taking me to her house or taking me home. She had a kid’s dream house (gumball machines, fun toys, pool, piano, 4 bedrooms, 2 living rooms, etc.) but she never had kids of her own. Every weekend in the summer, my brothers and I would go swim at her pool and she would make us hot dogs. She was the most positive person I’ve ever known and she would always “make lemonade out of lemons”. I used to always have nightmares that she died and I always thought I wouldn’t be able to handle it when she finally did. She passed away when I was a senior in college and while I did cry for a few days, I wasn’t as devastated as I thought I would be. She was in a rehab center after she had suffered a stroke. She loved drinking beer and that was the one thing she wanted before she died. My mom was so upset that she died before we ever got to sneak one in to her, but my dad opened up that he had in fact snuck one in a few days before she died.
